We are Nicholas and Ilese, the founders of Buchanan Family Foundation. We were in the same graduate degree program and shared classes at California Baptist University in Riverside, California. In the Spring of 2012 we became engaged in Anaheim, California at Disneyland and were later happily married the same year.

We care deeply about  the implications of our spiritual convictions, personal beliefs and how they directly impact our understanding of reality, our intimate relationship with one another, our children and ultimately, with others.

During the course of graduate studies, it became more evident per observations of theorists and research, that an individual's health correlates with the health of their relationships with others. This point is never demonstrated more clearly than when looking at an individual's relationship with those that raised them. The relationship we have with our family  model and teach us life lessons about love, trust and dependence.

It is clear that understanding attachment offers the explanation that we find in God's Word in regards to love and relationships. An understanding of attachment also supports the explanation we find in Scripture that makes sense of the things we do and experience in life when it comes to love.

Statement of Faith

We believe the Bible, consisting of all the books of the Old and New Testament, is the inspired, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God. We believe in the regular reading and practice of the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament due to the wisdom and objective truth it offers. We believe the Bible is the final authority in every area it addresses for every individual Christian, as well as for the Church collectively.

(Joshua 1:8; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:21; John 10:35)

We believe there is one God who eternally exists as three persons (triune): Father, Son and Holy Spirit. All three persons are co-equal and co-eternal but are distinct from one another. We believe that all things were created by Him and for Him. The Triune God is completely holy and the sovereign creator and sustainer of the universe.

(Deuteronomy 6:4; 1 Samuel 2:2; 1 Chronicles 29:11-12; Isaiah 6:3; Isaiah 45:21-22; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Colossians 1:16; Hebrews 1:1-14;

Hebrews 2:1-4)

We believe that God the Son became a human being in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ. He was supernaturally conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin, Mary, a lineal descendant of David. He lived and taught and performed mighty works, wonders and signs exactly as recored in the New Testament and as prophesied in the Old Testament. He lived a sinless life. He was put to death by crucifixion under Pontius Pilate, died a substitutionary death for all mankind, was raised from the dead the third day, showed Himself to be alive to His disciples, appearing to them in the space of forty days. After this, ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father, And the Father made Him to be head over all things, including the Church. The Lord Jesus Christ is coming again to this earth, personally, bodily and visibly.

(Genesis 3:15; 2 Samuel 7:12-13; Isaiah 7:14; Isaiah 9:6; Isaiah 53; Matthew 20:28; Luke 1:26-37; Luke 23-24; John 1:1-4; John 2:19; John 19:30; 1 Corinthians 15; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; Hebrews 9:28; 1 John 2:2; 1 Peter 2:24; Revelation 1:7)

We believe Holy Spirit is God, was sent by God the Father and God the Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. We believe Holy Spirit regenerates, indwells, and seals believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, and that He empowers them to live as His witness and fulfill the command of the Great Commission.

(Psalm 143:10; Ezekiel 36:26-27; John 14:16-17; John 16:7-11; Acts 1:8; Romans 8:5-11; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20; 1 Corinthians 12-14; Ephesians 1:13-14; Titus 3:5-6)

We believe that the Triune God created human beings, male and female, in His own image and likeness. Therefore, humans were designed to be image bearers, sinless, equal in value, and dignity with transcendent, intrinsic worth. The unjustified destruction of any human being from conception to natural death (e.g., through abortion, embryonic stem cell research, cloning doctor-assisted suicide, etc.) is wrong. According to His purpose and design, the Triune God created man and woman to fulfill distinct but complementary roles in the contexts of marriage, family, and the local church as made clear in the Bible. Every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect and dignity. Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with the Bible.

(Genesis 1:26-28; Exodus 20:13; Job 31:15; Psalm 139:13-16; Jeremiah 1:5; Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31; Romans 12:9-18; Romans 14:19; 1 Corinthians 7; 1 Corinthians 11:1-3, 11-12; 1 Corinthians 12; Ephesians 4:29; Ephesians 5:22-6:4; )

We believe that, the whole human race fell in the fall of the first Adam. All men, apart from spiritual regeneration, are sinners. They cannot see nor enter the Kingdom of God and receive salvation until they repent of their sins and are born again of the Holy Spirit. Those that do not repent and receive the free gift of salvation shall then choose for themselves an eternal existence in a state of conscious isolation from God’s grace, in endless torment and anguish.

(Genesis 3; Matthew 7:21-27; Matthew 8:12; Matthew 16:13-17; Luke 16:19-31; Luke 23:39-43; John 3:3-21; Romans 3:23; Romans 4-5:1-8); Revelation 20:14-15; 21:8).

There is a personal devil, a being who uses the limits of this current Earth and Heaven that enable humanity to have the option to choose eternal life and love through the work of the Triune God and manipulates those limits to exert power only so far as God allows him for the purpose to steal, kill and destroy. He is the enemy of our soul and ultimately shall be judged and condemned, forever.

(Genesis 3, John 10:10; Matthew 25:42; 2 Peter 2:4; Jude 6)

We believe there is one Church, the body of Christ, consisting of men and women from every tribe, tongue, people and nation. We believe that each local congregation is an expression that that universal church. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that all of the gifts of Holy Spirit mentioned in the Bible are available to, and active in His Church today. We believe in The Kingdom of God, The Resurrection, The Day of the Lord, The New Heaven and New Earth.

(Psalm 103:19; Daniel 12:2; Matthew 25:41-46; Luke 1:23-33; John 3:5-7; John 14:16-17; John 16:7-11; Acts 1:8; Acts 2:42-47; Romans 8:9; Romans 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Ephesians 4:4; 1 John 5:11-2; Revelation 5:9; Revelation 21:1-22:5)
